Public Service Announcement

Never go to Jalan Song at night if you're driving.

My driver seat window got smashed last night when I was there watching football with friends. Damn bastards took my cd player and my ipod. CD player didn't really cause me much grief, compared to my ipod. Bloody wankers.

It's the second time this has happened. The first time was Dec last year, when my family's CRV got its window smashed in as well. They took the suitcase of a German guest of ours that had only arrived in Kuching a few hours earlier, leaving her with nothing but the clothes on her back. Subsequent police report revealed that this happened very frequently at Jalan Song.

The first time, my dad parked his car at a very dark spot, quite far from the kopitiams. So last night, I parked my car pretty near the kopitiam, which I thought would be fairly safe, even though the car couldn't be seen from the kopitiam (due to the fencing from the construction work blocking the view). Boy, was I wrong. Had to happen twice for me to vow never to go Jalan Song at night anymore. Hopefully, those bastards get what they deserve.

Now, all this leads to an question just begging to be asked. If the cops know that this happens all the time (almost every night, or so I've heard), why aren't they doing something about it? Why don't they post some plainclothes policeman to patrol the area? I suspect the culprits are always the same people (and I suspect they're from the nearby construction site too). If indeed this is true, by posting some cops there and catching the culprits, it will end these incidents once and for all. Recently, there've been a lot of cops patrolling the roads in the middle of the night, they should really spare some men to patrol Jalan Song and other areas where the same kind of incidents occur.

The Magnificent Shiny Disc Hero

Yo..hello friend! Do you know what DVD9 is? You know, nine? Sembilan?

Has anybody seen the Astro On Demand commercial, starring the Magnificent Shiny Disc Hero? Before you guys shout out a resonating "Tai Jor Lor!", I just wanna say that this commercial is insanely hilarious! Props to the creative minds that came up with this commercial. Hehe..when I first saw it, I thought it was a commercial for anti-piracy.

I gotta say, Malaysian commercials have always been pretty good. Though some are bad and cheesy, they've always been a fair share of gems out there in the mix. And TMSDH is one of the best I've seen. One of the reasons I'm really fond of it is that the commercial uses a pirated disc seller who sells his wares at a kopitiam, something that we encounter frequently and which I daresay is uniquely Malaysian (the act of a walking vendor selling discs at kopitiams I mean).

For those of you that haven't seen it (or you just wanna see it again), here are the commercials, courtesy of Youtube. There are 3 of them so far, hopefully there's more. The 1st one (and the longest one) is the best.

Now if anybody asks you if you've seen the commercial, you can answer "Tai Jor Lor!!"
